No Windows phones available for purchase at Verizon

Verizon has never been a big supporter of Windows phones, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the US carrier finally decided to stop selling devices powered by Microsoft’s mobile operating system.

The Lumia 735, which was the only Windows phone available at Verizon, is no longer up for grabs and the carrier is only listing Android and iOS devices in its store, as Neowin spotted.

With the removal of this old Lumia, Verizon pretty much says goodbye to Windows phones completely, as no other devices running Microsoft’s OS are available for purchase. The HP Elite X3 and the Alcatel IDOL 4S, which are two of the newest Windows phones, are not sold by Verizon.

Seeing Verizon giving up on the Lumia 735, however, is not such a big surprise, as it was all just a matter of time until it finally happened.

Mid-range phone

The device was officially introduced by Microsoft in September 2014, but Verizon only started selling it in June 2015, probably under the pressure of the Redmond-based software giant, who wanted to make its phones more widely available in the United States.

Unfortunately, however, Verizon never embraced other Windows phones launched by Microsoft, such as the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, which were the company’s latest flagships running Windows 10 Mobile.

It goes without saying that the Lumia 735 has never been a top selling product at Verizon and its specs can hardly be considered compelling for potential buyers.

The phone comes with a 4.7-inch display with a resolution of 720x1280 pixels and is powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. It integrates a 6.7-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing unit, as well as a 2,200 mAh battery, wireless charging, and microSD card support.

Verizon giving up on Windows phone just adds up to the demise of Microsoft’s mobile operating system, which itself is declining in market share across the world. At this point, about 0.5 percent of the world’s phones are running Windows.
