Unveiled back in September at IFA 2014 trade fair, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge made it to market two months later. Since Google launched Android 5.0 Lollipop only in October, the Galaxy Note Edge shipped with Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system right out of the box.

It took Samsung about five months to release the promised Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Galaxy Note Edge, but in the meantime Google already launched Lollipop 5.1.

Obviously, carrier-bounded Galaxy Note Edge units had to wait a bit longer for the update to arrive. For example, T-Mobile and US Cellular deployed Android 5.0 Lollipop for Samsung Galaxy Note Edge back in April, but Verizon users had to wait a while longer.

The good news is beginning this week, Samsung Galaxy Note Edge is getting Android 5.0 Lollipop update at Verizon Wireless.

The new update brings the new Material Design, enhanced animations and 3-D views, 64-bit ABI support and improved runtime.

If you own Verizon's Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and haven't been notified on the update, you might want to check for it manually. Also, make sure your phone's battery is at least 50% charged before trying to upgrade.

Verizon has yet to confirm whether or not the update is available for download via cellular network or just on Wi-Fi network, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Some features have been removed completely or replaced by new ones

Moving on to Android 5.0 Lollipop changes, the update brings lots of new features and improvements, but some options have been removed as well.

For example, the “blocking mode” has been removed and replaced with “Do not disturb” feature. Also, the “Sound” text has been updated to “Sound and notification.” Lots of improvements and tweaks to lock screen and notifications have been implemented as well.

There are many more new features included in Android 5.0 Lollipop for Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, but for the full list of improvements you might want to check out the official changelog.
