Google and Verizon clearly miscalculated the demand for Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones, especially since some customers had to wait even for one month and a half to receive the phone, according to a thread on Reddit. Clearly, patience is key when ordering the Pixel or Pixel XL.
Daydream View is currently sold for $49.99 at Verizon
Verizon is aware of the situation, and as a sign of appreciation to customers who waited for a long time to receive their phones, the company has started shipping out free Daydream View VR headsets to go with the phones.
Customers were called by Verizon representatives and informed that they would receive the headset for free. We’re just hoping that headsets are shipped only to customers who already received their Pixel or Pixel XL phones, or they wouldn’t be able to use them and it would only make the wait seem longer. It’s worth mentioning that Daydream View also works with Moto Z phones.
Verizon currently has a promotion for Daydream View headsets, a 37% discount from the initial $79.99 price, making the headset available for $49.99 on its website until February 25.
Verizon isn’t offering the Daydream View to all Pixel and Pixel XL customers, a representative recently told Digital Trends that the offer only applies to a “certain subset” of people who waited very long to receive their phones. Details about the exact delay timeframe weren’t provided.
