The carrier is still committed to the Xperia lineup

Major carrier Verizon announced several months ago that it would offer Sony's Xperia Z4v. The news came soon after the Japanese company launched the Xperia Z3+, which was a little bit surprising since the Xperia Z4v was more powerful.

Unlike the Xperia Z3+, which comes with a 5.2-inch capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution, Xperia Z4v boasts a similar-sized display but with Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.

That was a bit awkward at that time, since various Sony officials had previously stated that their company was not yet ready to include Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) displays into its phones.

Also, the Xperia Z4v had a slightly larger 3,000 mAh battery, but the difference wasn't that big in comparison with Xperia Z3+'s 2,930 mAh battery.

The smartphone has become redundant with the launch of Xperia Z5 series

Bottom line is Verizon customers should have had access to the most powerful handset launched by Sony Mobile. Now with the launch of the Xperia Z5 series, the Xperia Z4v loses some of its potential.

Which is probably the main reason Verizon and Sony Mobile have decided to cancel the launch of Xperia Z4v. According to the Big Red, the Xperia Z4v won't be added to its portfolio of smartphones anymore, though other Sony devices might be coming soon.

“Verizon will no longer be launching Xperia Z4v, however we are committed to supporting Sony Mobile’s product portfolio and will support existing products. Sony is a strategic partner as we continue having ongoing discussions together as part of our future portfolio,” says Verizon in a short statement.

So, while we won't be seeing the Xperia Z4v at Verizon, we shouldn't rule out the launch of other Sony smartphones at the Big Red in the not-so-distant future.
