Verizon might be launching the phone towards the end of 2015

A few days ago, we brought you news that the Moto X Play might actually arrive in the United States after all, despite the company’s previous statements. However, the phone will not go on sale as the Moto X Play but as the DROID Maxx 2, which will be a Verizon exclusive.

Today, we’re getting more proof that this will indeed be the case. The folks at Hellmothk have posted a bunch of images showcasing the alleged back of the handset. And taking into account that the Moto X Play is customizable via the Moto Maker, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the DROID Maxx 2 will also be customizable.

The images show off the Verizon logo that has been plastered on the back plate. Still, anyone with a bit of Photoshop skill could have added it, so for the time being, we should be taking this info with a grain of salt.

The specs of the DROID Maxx 2 remain a mystery

We don’t know very much about the upcoming Motorola DROID Maxx 2. For starters, specs are quite unclear. If the phone remains exactly the same as the Moto X Play, then it will make a debut with a 5.5-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 615 processor under the hood coupled with 2GB of RAM, plus a 21MP/5MP camera combo.

On the other hand, Verizon might be tweaking the configuration a little bit, but this is yet to be confirmed. The smartphone should be available for purchase at Big Red by the end of the year.

Furthermore, the carrier might soon offer a rebranded Moto X Style as the DROID Turbo 2. This is not the first time the two handsets have popped up in the rumor mill, as at some point, @evleaks suggested that the Moto X Play and Moto X Style would arrive in the United States at Verizon Wireless as the DROID Maxx 2 and DROID Turbo 2.
