The development team at Valve has just wrapped up the major The International tournament for DOTA 2 and it seems that from now on the focus of the company will be on bringing the Reborn version of the title out of beta.

This means that the Source 2 engine will become the primary one for the Multiplayer Online Battle Arena title, but the studio has not offered an official date for the move and still has many features to move over.

Erik Johnson, one of the leading developers at Valve, is quoted by IGN as saying that the shift to the new technology brings a lot of advantages for the studio, even if it requires quite a bit of initial work.

He adds, "Fundamentally what Source 2 does is let everyone at Valve who makes game content be more efficient, it allows us to do everything more efficiently."

Until the shift to Source 2 for DOTA 2 takes place, gamers who love the MOBA can look forward to the addition of a new 12 versus 12 multiplayer mode.

Valve is probably preparing to shift other titles in its stable, like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, to the new engine but has not announced clear plans for them.

The International 2015 was won by Evil Geniuses, who managed to take home a prize of more than 6.5 million dollars (5.5 million Euro).

Source 2 represents a big step ahead for the company

Valve has said that it plans to offer the new engine for free to developers in order to make it easier for them to create projects that can then be delivered to gamers via Steam.

Source 2 is also designed to make it easier for creators to share content and to collaborate on their titles.

Many gamers are hoping that the launch of a new engine means that Valve will be soon announcing a new game project, with some even hoping that the long-awaited Half-Life 3 will become reality.

But it seems that the company is more focused on delivering improved versions of its most successful titles, and that means a lot of resources will be allocated to DOTA 2 in the future and new projects might have to wait.
