Valve has started to advertise some items on Steam

Valve has finally refreshed the Hardware page on the Steam website, and users are now somewhat confused about the announcements made there.

Steam users quickly noticed the new Hardware page on the Steam website, and at first glance, it looks like some games are being ported to the Linux platform. Why else would you list them there? Well, it’s most likely a confusion, and Valve doesn’t seem to want to correct it.

The Hardware page remained intact for many months, but it has been updated, and there are now ads for multiple games. Since the website also lists a number of Steam Machines, many users assumed that those games will be released with Linux support. Titles like Just Cause 3, Street Fighter V, Mad Max, Warframe, Grand Theft Auto V, or Metal Gear Solid V on Linux sound like it’s too good to be true.

Some of the games mentioned above might arrive on the Linux platform in the future and developers expressed interest for it, but there’s a long way from promises of Linux support to actual Linux support.

What’s happening, in fact

As most users immediately realized, Valve chose to list all the games that work well with its hardware on the same website, but that is the trick. One of the pieces of hardware is actually the Steam Controller.

So, when you see Metal Gear Solid V or Grand Theft Auto V listed on that website, it’s technically correct. The games will work very well with the new Steam Controller, and there is no connection to the Steam Machines and their Linux-based Steam OS.

There is some hope that Valve is still holding some information back and that it plans to have many more titles out for Linux by the end of the year, but that’s pretty much the definition of wishful thinking.
