Upgrading to Windows 10 doesn't go smoothly for some

Windows 10 was officially released on July 29 for computers across the world, but just as promised, Microsoft rolled out the new operating system in waves, trying to fix the majority of compatibility issues and upgrade issues that might be experienced depending on the hardware its customers were using.

Now that almost one month has passed since Windows 10 first got to see daylight as a full product, we can finally have a look at the thoughts of those who have already installed it and figure out how smoothly the transition from Windows 7 or 8.1 actually went.

It's no secret that the Windows 10 upgrade was interrupted by various errors, and here at Softpedia, we’ve reported the majority of them in the last couple of weeks. Some have a workaround, many don't, but either way, the switch from Windows 7 and 8.1 to Windows 10 didn't go as expected.

Searching the web for comments on Windows 10 from people who installed it is not difficult and finding negative posts is even easier, especially because users who encounter problems with a new product are in 99 percent of the cases the most vocal.

Just too many errors

But this time, they do have a point, and the number of errors that you might come across is living proof.

We've heard many people say that Windows 10 is an unfinished operating system and it definitely is. But Microsoft itself has admitted that Windows 10 “is never done,” explaining that it's continuously working with users across the world, not only to fix these bugs and issues but also to release feature updates based on their feedback.

This is no rant and there's no doubt that many are actually very pleased with it, but unfortunately, some of the users who had a bad first experience with Windows 10 have already downgraded to Windows 7 and 8.1, so for them, there's no turning back.

Below are the posts of some Windows 10 users, collected from the official Community forums:

“Upgraded to windows 10. Now no network, no printers and seems no way of getting back to 8.1. Is this a joke. Can't even find anywhere to contact support. Computer now seems useless and its only 6 months old!” - Finknotle

“Sorry to be blunt. Windows 10 has been a disaster for my top end computers used for architecture. I had to reverse to Windows 8.1. It took me 4 days to reverse everything to a functional level.” - ElliotCorrea

“Windows 10 loaded fine but then it wouldn't reboot and I had to reset my computer to Windows 8, (fortunately not losing any files but having to reinstall all programs downloaded since purchase). Total time was about six hours work to get to where I started.” - geoffrey andphilippa

“I have more 20 peripherals on my main computer, and 7 computers, including some running peripherals over 10 years old. You want us to read all the driver and software compatibility for all that lot, cos you can't be bothered to make your OS work properly.” - wcndave2

“It's almost as if Microsoft said ‘remember how people took issue with with windows 8? why don't we give some upgrade the tackles all that criticism and MAKE IT EVEN LESS FUNCTIONAL! Everyone will love it!’” - krbdis

“I upgraded from Windows 7. No sound from my Dvico Fusion HDTV! Notepad opens every time I boot! Takes unbelievable amount of time to boot! Won't shut down properly - says something about ResManager.exe still open! All in all I'm extremely disappointed. I have gone back to Windows 7. I really can't understand why Microsoft can't get it right!!?” - Walker88
