The new Unreal Tournament is now in the works at Epic Games, and the Linux platform is on par with the other platforms. When it launches, it will be one of the best-looking games around.

Epic Games is trying something different with the new Unreal Tournament, and it's the kind of strategy that will either be incredibly successful, or it will be the last time it is being used.

The studio wants to make the game free and offer it to everyone, on all the available platforms. They intend to make money from an integrated store that would enable third-party developers to sell their stuff, albeit maps or items, and so on.

It's a daring strategy, and it seems to work just fine with Team Fortress 2. Valve's game is also free, it's one of the most played titles on Steam, and it generates a lot of money for the company.

It's probably OK to say that the new Unreal Tournament is a free-to-play title, but it won't pester people with offers of new weapons or items, and users will have to excel by simply being better.

Unreal Tournament is using Unreal 4

Since Epic Games is also making the Unreal engine, it stands to reason that they are the best at using that technology in a game. Unreal Tournament is still in the Alpha stages, but it already looks amazing, and it will only increase in quality. When it is released, it will probably be one of the most beautiful games around and we can see that already.

A Reddit user put together a lot of screenshots, and the game could launch tomorrow in its current state although there are probably a lot of bugs, and they still need to add a ton of content. You can check the gallery below for more details.
