Epic Games, through Alexander Paschall and Stephen Ellis, has had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of the first Preview build of the highly anticipated Unreal Engine 4.10 game engine.

According to the developers, Unreal Engine 4.10 Preview 1 is now available for download for all supported platforms, including Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, Android, and GNU/Linux, bringing dozens of new features, several performance improvements, and over 300 bugfixes.

Prominent features of Unreal Engine 4.10 Preview 1 include support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2015, support for multiple new gamepads for the Android platform, the addition of an optional launch screen for Android projects, Xcode project overhaul, the addition of Blueprint Node Alignment Routines to the editor, and support for Xcode 7, iOS 9, OS X 10.11, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and PlayStation 4 3.00 SDKs.

Furthermore, the Refraction on Mobile feature has been enabled for iPhone 5s or later devices, and the Material Quality Level Scalability System for Mobile was added to allow mobile games to scale down to low-end devices while keeping the quality untouched.

Other additions include Visible and Hidden Mesh optimizations for optimized rendering of head-mounted VR displays, Motion Controller Component updates, and Landscape Mirror Tool updates.

"After much anticipation, Preview 1 of 4.10 is available for download! If you are the kind of developer who likes to be on the bleeding edge, you will want to grab this latest build. With tons of new features and over 300 bug fixes, there is plenty in store," said Alexander Paschall.

Getting started with Unreal Engine 4.10

Game developers who want to get started with this first preview version of Unreal Engine 4.10 (read the paragraph below before anything else) need to go the "Library" section of Epic Games Launcher's Unreal Engine tab, select "Add Versions," and then click on the 4.10 Preview 1 entry.

However, please note that this is a pre-release version, an early development build that contains numerous known and unknown issues. Thus, we don't recommend using it on production environments. Epic Games urges game developers to not convert their projects for active development on the Preview releases of Unreal Engine.
