Last week, unlocked Galaxy S7 edge smartphones in the US started receiving updates to Android Nougat and it seems that it’s now time for the standard Galaxy S7 to get its update to the latest Android version. Owners of unlocked Galaxy S7 units can now update their phones to Nougat.

Samsung appears to be updating unlocked Galaxy S7 edge units in the UK as well, as threads on Reddit suggest. Last week’s update for unlocked Galaxy S7 edge units required users to access Samsung’s Smart Switch PC interface in order to install Nougat on their phones.

But the Nougat update for unlocked Galaxy S7 units in the US appears to be made available over the air, meaning that smartphone owners don’t need to access a PC interface to perform the update.

Android Nougat for Galaxy S7 units seems to have a size of 1.2GB and users should make sure that they have enough space on their units before downloading. In addition, considering the size, unlocked units prepared for update should have at least 50% battery and be connected to a WiFi network, as to avoid mobile charges.

The update brings multi window support to unlocked Galaxy S7 units

It’s also worth mentioning that Samsung usually outs updates for its flagship smartphones earlier than carriers, but that wasn’t the case with the Galaxy S7. Most carriers in the US brought Nougat to locked S7 units a few weeks ago, but unlocked versions in the US have received the update only this month.

Perhaps Samsung ran into some issues when configuring Android Nougat update for unlocked Galaxy S7 units in the US and rushed to fix them before releasing the update. Whatever the case, Android Nougat will bring lots of new features to unlocked Galaxy S7 smartphones, including new UX and various performance modes. It also brings improved settings menu and Always on Display feature, together with multi window support and enhanced notifications.
