14 DAY TRIAL // In a surprising turn of events, Motorola released Android 7.0 Nougat for the Moto Z, but only Verizon customers were able to download it. That's because for some reason Motorola has decided that the carrier-branded Moto Z Droid and Moto Z Droid Force should be the first to be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat.
The unlocked version of the Moto Z was launched in the United States a few months later, which is probably one of the reasons the smartphone wasn't updated at the same time as the Verizon-branded units.
Moreover, the unlocked Moto Z units in Europe and other regions have started to receive the update since last month, but not in the United States.
Well, it appears that Motorola has finally kicked off the rollout of Android 7.0 Nougat for the unlocked Moto Z smartphones in the United States.
The folks over at AndroidPolice report the Moto Z phones in the country are now getting the update OTA (over the air), so if you live in the U.S., you should check for Android 7.0 Nougat on your smartphone if you haven't been notified of its availability yet.
The official changelog mentions the update will upgrade the phone's OS to Android 7.0 Nougat, and it will bring many enhancements including new multitasking features, more efficient notification controls and improved data saved and battery features.
Some updates to Moto Mods support have been included as well, along with other under-the-hood tweaks and bug fixes. Unfortunately, it looks like Motorola didn't have time to include something very important in the update: the latest security patch.
It appears that Android 7.0 Nougat for the Moto Z comes with the November 2016 security update, even though Google already released the February security patch earlier this week.
Not to mention that Android 7.1.1 Nougat is already available to some devices, while Android 7.1.2 Nougat beta is pushed to Pixel and Nexus devices.
