Carrier-branded units are likely to get it soon as well

Hear ye, hear ye. HTC is indeed going to release Android 7.0 Nougat for one of its smartphones, even though other companies like LG and Motorola stole the start.

We've been writing about Android 7.0 Nougat updates for a few months now, but HTC was mentioned only briefly as one of the handset makers willing to deploy the update this year.

The Taiwanese company had other problems to solve, like the fact that it continues to lose money from the smartphone division. Also, let's not forget that HTC has been contracted by Google to build the Pixel phones, so this is another matter that required its full attention.

However, it looks like the company has been working on bringing Android 7.0 Nougat to some of its smartphones all along. HTC's VP of Product Managers, Mo Versi, has just confirmed that the HTC 10 will be the company's first smartphone to receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update.

Keep in mind though that the update will only be available to unlocked versions of the smartphone, but the carrier-branded units are likely to get it as well, probably later on.

We're also not sure where exactly the update will be deployed first. Is it going to be released in the United States initially? Or perhaps in Europe? HTC can even start the rollout in both regions and provide HTC 10 owners with a nice surprise.

It's also worth noting that HTC will start pushing Android 7.0 Nougat to the HTC 10 today, November 25. Still, due to the fact that this is a staged rollout, the update will be initially released to a small percentage of users, but then the availability will be extended to a larger audience.

So, if you own an unlocked HTC 10, you might want to start checking for the update on your phone later today, since you never know when you get it.
