Photo allegedly taken into a Foxconn factory

The iPhone 7s got leaked for the very first time this weekend, and since the official launch is just around the corner, more information is now expected to reach the web at a much faster pace, though it’s worth taking everything with a healthy amount of skepticism.

A photo that was posted on Chinese website Feng today, for instance, allegedly shows the iPhone 7s in a Foxconn factory, and while it does indicate that mass production of the device had started, there’s something even more intriguing.

The fingerprint sensor is placed on the back, just below the Apple logo, and this is said to happen after Apple failed to integrate it into the display.

Fake, fake, fake

And yet, there are details that indicate the photo is fake or only shows some Chinese clones or dummies and not the real iPhone 7s.

First and foremost, Touch ID embedded into the display was said to be a feature exclusively prepared for the iPhone 8 (or the iPhone X, as some sources call it), mostly because it’s an anniversary model that Apple wants to equip with tech that won’t be available on other devices.

Then, there’s no point in moving Touch ID to the back of the phone when the front keeps the existing design, with the same bezels plus a home button. Most likely, the iPhone 7s and 7s Plus will look similar to the current iPhone generation, and Apple has absolutely no reason not to keep Touch ID in the Home button.

All details about the new iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus will be revealed in September when the two devices are projected to see daylight, alongside the all-new iPhone 8. In the meantime, expect more similar leaks to reach the web, but as mentioned already, just don’t trust everything you see these days.
