Shipping with the latest security updates from the Debian Stable (Jessie) software repositories, Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.1-4 adds a bunch of interesting improvements and new features to the Linux-based, server-oriented operating system from Univention. Among these, we can mention the implementation of Samba 4.5.1 for better Active Directory compatibility and DRS replication.
While the addition of Samba 4.5.1 also improves the printer and file sharing services, a new kernel based on the upstream Linux 4.1 long-term supported series adds several security updates, overall stability enhancements, as well as support for newer hardware. Another interesting feature is the simplification of the migration to dockerize apps.
"Though we decided to postpone the release of UCS 4.2 to April next year, we are happy to have released UCS 4.1-4 today with quite a lot of good new features, in particular as to UCS' robustness and ease of use," said Maren Abatielos. "The installation wizard and management system now also support French and the implementation of Docker-based apps is also easier now."

We have to admit that the implementation of Docker-based apps in Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.1-4 makes this Linux-based operating system quite appealing for servers, and it looks like these new Dockerized apps can now use Univention Corporate Server's database through a basic configuration setting. Last but not least, Univention Corporate Server 4.1-4 updates the installation wizard, as well as the management system to support the French language.
