On February 16, 2016, Univention GmbH was pleased to announce the general availability of the first point release of their stable Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.1 server-oriented GNU/Linux operating system based on Debian.

Univention Corporate Server 4.1-1 ships with a significant amount of improvements in various areas, among which we can mention the long-term supported Linux 4.1.16 kernel for better hardware support, as well as better Active Directory (AD) compatibility thanks to the latest Samba 4.3.3 software.

Univention Virtual Machine Manager (UVMM) has been updated to handle both Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Virtual Private Clouds (VPC) cloud hosting services, thus allowing users to administrate virtual machines (VMs) in the EC2 region. The directory service replication received performance improvements.

Additionally, Univention Corporate Server 4.1-1 brings multiple usability and design enhancements to Univention App Center, better Internet Explorer compatibility, internationalization and localization improvements, as well as the latest security updates for software like MySQL, GRUB, and OpenJDK.

"We are pleased to announce the availability of UCS 4.1-1 for download, the first point release of Univention Corporate Server (UCS) 4.1. It includes all errata updates issued for UCS 4.0-0 and provides various improvements and bugfixes," reads the announcement.

LDAP replication robustness improvements, bugfixes

Among other interesting features implemented in Univention Corporate Server 4.1-1, we can notice improvements in the robustness of the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) replication, along with that of the management of the print server, as well as enhancements in the self-service functions.

Other than that, there are migration support for stopped virtual machines in UVMM, enhanced Active Directory provisioning and management, along with automatic monitoring of the provisioning through Nagios, and support for automatic configuration of systems in the role domain controller master during installation.

Univention Corporate Server 4.1-1 remains based on Debian GNU/Linux 8.2 (Jessie), and it's available for download for 64-bit systems from the project's website, where users can also find virtual machine images for the well-known Oracle VirtualBox and VMWare virtualizations software, or via Softpedia.
