You might not have heard of Chinese smartphone manufacturer UMi, but the company is actually prepping a pretty interesting handset called Iron, which has already been made available for pre-order via Chinese retailers.

The UMi Iron is a premium device that arrives with a metal build. The smartphone bundles a 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels) and draws power from a MediaTek MT6753 octa-core processor fitted with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (which luckily can be expanded via microSD card up to 64GB of internal storage).

The UMi Iron features a 13MP camera on the back that takes advantage of a Sony IMX214 sensor, while a capable 8MP frontal shooter (OmniVision sensor) resides up in front.

The phone is kept alive by a pretty hefty 3,350 mAh battery, which should ensure you get enough work done on a single charge.

The Iron is equipped with the latest in terms of software, meaning Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and 4G LTE connectivity.

The UMi Iron is extremely cheap

Apart from all the things we detailed above, the Iron also takes advantage of a bunch of nifty functionalities, including eye scanner for improved security (which is similar to retina scanner), beam notification light (RGB LED) located at the very bottom of the phone.

Furthermore, the phone has a heart rate monitor and UV sensor to be employed by health applications. Texas Instruments brings forth Hi-Fi Audio prowess into the equation.

As you can see, the spec list does sound to be pretty impressive. So it will probably be extremely hard for you to believe that the phone will go on to be sold for only $179.99 / €162.

This is extremely affordable, but you have to take into consideration that the brand selling the phone is pretty obscure.

If you’re not the trusting type, you might as well add a few more bucks to the pile of money and get a Meizu MX5.

The base version sells for $290 / €259, and for this money, you’ll be able to get your hands on a 5.5-inch AMOLED display-touting device with 1080p resolution that is sustained by a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6975 chipset fitted with 3GB of RAM and 32/64GB of internal storage.
