The United Kingdom has the speediest mobile Internet in the world, a new report shows, which also places the United States on the 28th spot.

According to the latest report on Internet connectivity from Akamai, when it comes to average mobile Internet speed, the United Kingdom sports a massive 26 Mbps. The country is followed by Germany (24.1 Mbps), Finland (21.6 Mbps), France (17.4 Mbps), Norway (17.3 Mbps), Denmark (16.6 Mbps), Belgium (16.2 Mbps), Romania (15.9 Mbps), Australia (15.7 Mbps) and Japan (15.6 Mbps), shaping up the top 10. By contrast, the United States barely hits an average of 10.7 Mbps.

By the time you actually reach the United States on the list, you'll pass by the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Kenya, Austria, Ireland, Sweden, New Zealand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Italy, Egypt, Hungary, South Korea and Greece.

A feeble excuse

Since most people with a smartphone spend a great deal of time using mobile Internet to get through the day, mobile Internet speeds are particularly important. It is disheartening to see the likes of the United States so low on the chart, especially with how much telcos are praising themselves for the good work they're doing and the impressive speeds they're offering users.

Of course, the US is a large country, with 4G coverage dropping and climbing from one side of a city to another, not to mention varying from state to state. US telcos, however, are bragging that they're in the process of rolling out newer, faster networks, so there's hope that speeds will increase in the coming years.

On the other hand, just as speeds across the US will continue to rise, so they will across the world. It is quite likely, thus, that the US will continue to score much lower than European nations.

We'll all just patiently await implementation of 5G technologies, which are still in testing, so we're likely to see even higher speeds over the next few years.
