EE pulls Windows Phone app, offers browser solution instead

Long-time Windows phone users must know that several developers decided to leave the platform lately given all the uncertainty, so it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that UK carrier EE is doing the same thing.

It appears that the firm is pulling its Windows Phone app and telling users to point their browsers to the official website to continue to access its service instead, which is pretty much the common solution that everyone jumping ship provides to users.

A reason for this decision hasn’t been provided, but it’s not difficult to figure out that it’s all happening because of the declining market share. This is what the majority of developers said when deciding to leave the platform, explaining that focusing all efforts on Android and iOS makes more sense than working on an app for Windows Phone where the number of users drops every day.

So many apps leaving the platform

At first glance, it might not seem such a big deal that EE is pulling its app from the Store, mostly because it was essentially a web wrapper that didn’t provide too many extras beside what you can get with the browser, but this decision shows that there’s still no interest for developers to stick around.

Windows Phone has become more of a platform that the majority of developers avoid these days, and this can only be bad news for users, as Microsoft itself doesn’t seem to be too keen on changing this anytime soon.

The software giant continues to remain tight-lipped on everything related to its mobile plans, and all this secrecy does nothing more than to fuel speculation that the mobile platform no longer has a future.

Without a doubt, EE won’t be the last app developer leaving Windows phones, but everyone’s waiting for Microsoft to provide more information on its mobile plans, which could include a possible confirmation of the eagerly-anticipated Surface Phone that could see daylight this year.
