14 DAY TRIAL // ubuntuBSD developer Jon Boden has just announced a few minutes ago on Twitter that the fifth Beta build of the upcoming ubuntuBSD 15.10 operating system is ready for public testing.
We believe that, by now, you already know about the ubuntuBSD project, whose main design goal is to build a desktop-oriented operating system that offers the familiarity of the Ubuntu Linux OS, but powered by a BSD kernel borrowed from the widely used FreeBSD distribution.
It looks like Jon Boden is pretty serious about his new project, and he also asked Canonical recently if it is possible for him to contribute all of his work to the Ubuntu community, and if Canonical finds it fit, for the ubuntuBSD operating system to become an official flavor.
He's waiting for a response from upstream, but in the meantime the development cycle of ubuntuBSD 15.10, which should see a final release in the coming weeks, continues with a fifth Beta build out the door today, April 10, 2016.
What's new in ubuntuBSD 15.10 Beta 5
ubuntuBSD 15.10 Beta 5 comes hot on the heels of the fourth Beta release announced a few days ago, on April 7, 2016, bringing bug fixes for some hang issues reported by users in the Thunar file manager. Check the Launchpad bug report for more details on that.
Early adopters can help Mr. Boden discover bugs and issues in the ubuntuBSD operating system by downloading the ubuntuBSD 15.10 Beta 5 ISO images right now via our website and take them for a test drive. Please report bugs on the Launchpad website.
When testing ubuntuBSD, please try to keep in mind that it is still a pre-release version of the operating system, not suitable for deployment in production environments. Also, note that the ISO image will not run in live mode, for now.
