After having reported last week that work started on implementing push notifications for Web Apps on the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system, Canonical's David Barth now comes with more great news about the latest developments in the Web Apps area.

As you might know, Ubuntu Touch can run both native applications and Web Apps. Push notifications are available for the native apps written in QML, but there's no notification support for Web Apps, with the exception of a few built-in ones that comes with the operating system.

Therefore, today we can report that the push notification branch for Web Apps is almost ready for production, based on the specifications of the W3C Push API (Application Programming Interface), and you can see a video demo of the Web App push notifications in action on an Ubuntu phone device below.

Moreover, support for category and preview renderers landed for Scopes as a lot of work was done on Scope bindings with Node.js and io.js, a fix landed for the "state" parameter in Online Accounts, which affected the Instagram Scope, and the V2 daemon was improved to support the V1's functions with the new style.

DoNoTrack and Oxide were updated

In addition to the changes mentioned above, David Barth reports that the Webapps Team for Ubuntu Touch discussed the security requirements and maintenance policy for a V8-based Scopes container, and there's now an AppArmor policy group specifically designed for the "share cookies" functionality in Online Accounts.

Last but not least, some work was done for Oxide, a Qt5/QML binding based on the Chromium Content API, the DoNoTrack branch got updated, and some under-the-hood improvements were done for the MH integration branch.
