A new important patch is in the works for Ubuntu

Ubuntu developers are working on a new OTA update for Ubuntu Touch, and it looks like it's coming along just fine. Even better, the new Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition got some special attention, and the battery life will be much better.

One of the goals for the Ubuntu development team is to improve battery life for the phones, and this has been one of the biggest requests from the community. If you think about it, whenever you have a new phone out on the market, one of the first questions you hear is "how long does the battery last?" Not everyone wants to know about the power of the processor or how much memory is available. Battery life is sometimes a much more important aspect.

In fact, one of the previous OTA updates for Ubuntu Touch brought some serious improvements for the battery life for Bq Aquaris e4.5 and the community was quick to appreciate the changes. In fact, some users reported improvements up to 40% better performance, and that's a lot.

Next Ubuntu OTA update is still being worked on

It's difficult not to get excited about Ubuntu Touch when you know that the developers are planning to release a new major upgrade each month. So far they managed to keep this insane rate going, and it looks like they are getting closer to another release.

"Many many landings in progress today. Before the weekend, we landed a new device tarball for arale fixing multiple issues and improving battery life to some extent. More fixes are in the queue and the situation is looking better every moment. Many OTA-5 silos are still in progress, but we're getting closer and closer to our goal. Sadly, we already know that we'll need to prepare a separate image with translations later on for features that didn't make it in time for the soft translation freeze," noted Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak in this regular email.

Ubuntu Touch works right now on four phones, LG Nexus 4, Bq Aquaris e4.5, Bq Aquaris e5 HD, and Meizu MX4.
