The new update should land in a few days

The Ubuntu Touch platform is getting some major improvements in the coming months, and it looks like the SMS function is finally getting the attention it deserves.

Ubuntu Touch is a stable platform but it's not a complete one, and no one is disputing that. There are a ton of normal features missing from Ubuntu Touch, but new stuff is being added all the time, and those missing feats are being implemented.

It will take a while to get everything set up, but you shouldn't think that developers are oblivious to what's needed. They can't just do everything at once, so things arrive in batches.

All the changes and improvements for Ubuntu Touch are provided via over-the-air updates (OTA), and it looks like the new SMS features will also land pretty soon. The QA Team have published some details about what they have been working on, and it seems that the developers are finally looking seriously into the SMS functionality.

What's coming to Ubuntu Touch

If you are an Ubuntu Touch user and you have the OS as your daily driver, you might have noticed that the operating system is not actually complete. Stuff like SMS to multiple contacts, copying files from internal storage to the device, and other functionalities are not exactly up to par.

However, the new OTA 5 is on its way and the team is testing the following features: send an SMS from a contact, send SMS to multiple recipients, copy music to the phone via MTP, copy files from internal storage to the device via MTP, big file transfer, verify that all SIMs register to the provider, and a few others.

These are all tests for the upcoming update, but they show what's new in OTA 5, and from the looks of it, it's going to be a great release.
