Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak has sent in his daily reports for Wednesday, September 23, and Thursday, September 24, to inform us all about the latest features that landed in the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system in preparation for the OTA-7 software update.

According to Mr. Zemczak, September 23 was a very busy day for the Ubuntu Touch developers, as they managed to add many new features to Canonical's mobile operating system, which will be shipped to Ubuntu Phone users worldwide next month, around October 19, 2015.

Among the most interesting features that landed in Ubuntu Touch OTA-7, we can mention a new Ubuntu UI Toolkit that includes lots of bugfixes, a new Web Browser app that adds the ability to search in history, various string changes, as well as initial implementation of a context menu for selected text.

Furthermore, Ubuntu Touch received an updated version of the Gallery app, the Unity 8 user interface, as well as the Ubuntu Download Manager. Now that the Unity 8 bug that made the Ubuntu Touch developers retract any changes made to the libusermetrics library, as we reported a few days ago, has been fixed, they were able to re-release the new libusermetrics version.

"First of all: wily final freeze is now in effect! Even though touch development follows its own release processes, wily final freeze is an important factor for any dual landings or packages targeting 15.10 in overall. Please remember about that when preparing your landings," says Łukasz Zemczak.

A new Mir version landed in Ubuntu Touch

For the day of September 24, Mr. Zemczak reports that the Ubuntu Touch developers managed to land a new and improved version of the Mir display server, along with updates to the media-hub, mediascanner2, and ubuntu-settings-components packages. Also, the new libusermetrics version landed today in the stable PPA.

Lastly, the Ubuntu Touch developers are planning on releasing a new image for krillin devices in the coming days. More new features are expected to land tomorrow, September 25, as well as during the entire week of September 28 - October 2. We will keep you guys updated as soon as we receive further details.
