Canonical's Bill Filler posted a very interesting message on the Ubuntu Touch mailing list, informing Ubuntu app developers and Ubuntu Phone users alike about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch team for the operating system's core apps.

According to Mr. Filler, the Ubuntu Touch System Apps team over Canonical managed to implement a lot of new and attractive features for some of the most important core applications of Ubuntu for phones, including the Web Browser, Camera app, Gallery app, Address Book app, and Messaging app.

There are also many improvements to Ubuntu Touch's System Settings, Content-Hub, Sync, and Telephony features. Some of these updates arrived for Ubuntu Phone users worldwide along with the Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 software update released a few weeks ago, as reported by Softpedia.

Among some of the most interesting changes, we can mention the upgrade of the syncevo account to the buteo account, integration with Transfer Indicator, a converged layout for the Camera app, support for SDK 1.3, content-hub legacy app registration, as well as numerous bugfixes.

"The System Apps team completed Sprint 9 (4 week sprint) on Friday, Sept 4th and finished the planning for Sprint 10 (3 week sprint) this week. The team committed to the following work for Sprint 10, (24 cards/145 points). Below is the summary of planned work," says Bill Filler.

Here's what's new for Ubuntu Touch's Browser and Messaging apps

Among the new features implemented in the Ubuntu Touch web browser, we can mention support for downloading files within the app, Google Chrome-like tab opening functionality, search support in history view, permanent storage of thumbnails, and the addition of thumbnails to the Top Sites view and Bookmarks to the top level menu.

On the other hand, the Messaging app of Ubuntu Touch received the anticipated converged layout, better scrolling performance in the Messages view, the ability to match contact names when the app starts, a facelift to the new send button, faster thread loading, as well as many other fixes to the Message indicator.
