14 DAY TRIAL // We've been informed earlier by Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers in preparation for the upcoming OTA-9 software update, due for release on January 27, 2016.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the Ubuntu QA team is about to finish the testing of the Release Candidate image for OTA-9, but it looks like the bug reported yesterday is more serious than it first looked, and it is not a regression in the Content-Hub component, but an issue in QtMir.
"So far the only big and worrying issue that QA found is the one we already mentioned yesterday," says Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations. "The developers are now investigating to see how bad it is in reality. We're still not sure if this will be blocking the release though as the bug doesn't happen all the time."
At the moment of writing this article, the Ubuntu Touch developers are working hard to find out where the problem lies and to fix it before the OTA-9 update gets out on January 27. If it isn't possible to get a fix until then, most probably an OTA-9.5 will be released too in about two weeks from the release of OTA-9.
OTA-10 development continues at a slow pace
Also today, the Ubuntu Touch devs have managed to do a re-spin of the Release Candidate image to include the new language translations. It looks like this might be the last re-spin for this cycle, of course, if they don't decide to include the patch for the issue mentioned at the beginning of the article.
In the meantime, the OTA-10 development continues at a slow pace, as there are no new features, bugfixes or updates pushed today in the rc-proposed channel. Ubuntu Touch team is preparing a set of new, refreshed device tarballs for the Nexus 4 (mako) and Nexus 7 (flo) devices for tomorrow.
