14 DAY TRIAL // Today, January 19, Mr. Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical sent us his daily report to inform all Ubuntu Touch and Ubuntu Phone users about the latest work done in preparation for the forthcoming OTA-9 software update.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the entire week of January 19 is dedicated to the preparation and testing of the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 update, which should land on all supported Ubuntu Phone devices next week, on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, if everything goes according to plan.
The day started with Ubuntu QA's testing of the OTA-9 release candidate images, which have been generated on Saturday, January 16. Unfortunately, not all the fixes landed on the OTA-9 candidate, so the images have been re-spun with a new Mir update that promises to fix the reliability of the pinch-to-zoom functionality.
"OTA-9 preparation and testing week is on," said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations. "This newly built image essentially became our first official release candidate and got copied to the rc channel for further testing (target OTA-9-rc). [...] Fingers crossed for no blocking regressions!"
New Camera and Music apps coming soon
Again, the entire week is dedicated to the testing of the upcoming OTA-9 update, which is the responsibility of the Ubuntu QA team. The Release Candidate image will most certainly receive another re-spin later this week when the new Camera and Music apps will land, along with some updated translations.
However, at the moment of writing this article, all the required core features are in place for the final launch of the Ubuntu Touch OTA-9 update on January 27. If you want to test the candidate images, use the rc channel via the snapshot-ppa, but please note that the Chinese edition of Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is not there yet.
Tomorrow, the Ubuntu Touch team will try to copy the meizu.zh images to the rc channel. In the meantime, you can start poking around with the newly promoted devel-proposed images that landed today on the devel channel, but do not expect them to be fully functional.
