Today, Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak has informed us that the Ubuntu Touch development team is considering and preparing to release the promised OTA-9.5 hotfix to Ubuntu Phones users to fix the big Mir issue that made users' smartphones unstable.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the Mir team responsible for fixing the nasty bug reported by Ubuntu Phone users a few days ago have finally manage to release a patch and send it to the Ubuntu QA team for testing before it is delivered to users via the usual channels.

As reported a few days ago, many Ubuntu Phone users complained that they weren't able to use their devices for incoming calls. At first, the Ubuntu Touch developers were skeptical about the issue, as it was hard to reproduce, but now a patch is coming.

"As mentioned yesterday, the Mir team developers had a possible fix in the works already - but just a few moments ago we got news that it's almost ready and will be passed on to QA for validation soon (silo 64," said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations.

OTA-9.5 will be a hotfix release for Ubuntu Phone devices after all

The good news, however, is that the OTA-9.5 will be a hotfix release, after all, patching that nasty bug in the Mir display server and a few other small issues that need to be fixed as soon as possible. The update should arrive early next week, though.

And for the rest of the changes that the Ubuntu Touch team implemented for the OTA-9.5 update during the last couple of weeks or so, they will be moved to the next major update, OTA-10, which should see the light of day in the first week of March 2016.

Other than that, the Ubuntu Touch developers have managed today only to update some of the language packs for the upcoming OTA release, but tomorrow we will have more news regarding the development progress of the OTA-10 update for Ubuntu Phones.
