The OTA-10 software update might also be delayed

We have just been informed by Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical about the latest work done in preparation for the upcoming OTA-9.5 hotfix update for Ubuntu Phone mobile devices.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the Ubuntu Touch developers are still working hard on fixing the last remaining bugs, as well as on adding much-needed improvements to the mobile operating system. This means that they did not yet have the time to generate a first RC (Release Candidate) build and send it over to Ubuntu QA.

Among the things that have landed in the last 24 hours, we can mention a new Content-Hub version with support for legacy applications, an updated Web Browser app with fixes for convergences, and a new Unity Scope Click package with support for two-column layouts in previews. Moreover, there are an improved Ubuntu Systems Settings app and better Bluetooth support.

"We still don't have a candidate image for OTA-9.5 prepared sadly, we're all waiting on a few important silos to land," said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations. "This release has certainly gotten much bigger than we originally expected, so be prepared for slight delays in the final release date."

Both OTA-9.5 and OTA-10 might be delayed

Because the Ubuntu Touch developers can't stop implementing changes in the OTA-9.5 hotfix, it looks like it has just been transformed from a small and painless hotfix into a full-featured software update that might just bring more goodies than the OTA-9 update did, but it could see a slight delay for the final release planned for February 10, 2016.

If the OTA-9.5 hotfix is delayed, Canonical will also have to push back the development of the next major update, the OTA-10, which is currently planned for release on March 3, 2016. After the OTA-9.5 update gets out, the Ubuntu Touch developers will be able to better plan the release of the OTA-10 software update. Tomorrow we will have more news on the matter.
