At the request of our readers, we're publishing some more details about what's going on with the development of the OTA-9.1 hotfix update, which promises to patch the infamous incoming call issue reported by numerous Ubuntu Phone users.

But first, we have to mention the fact that Canonical should have released the said OTA update a long time ago to its Ubuntu Phone users, as some of them have already started looking elsewhere.

Canonical is usually not known for stalling updates, but it would appear that they have been quite busy these past two weeks with the preparation for the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2016 event.

Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical has just informed us that the OTA-9.1 update is about to be pushed to the stable channel for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices, and the phased upgrade should start on Wednesday, February 24, 2016.

"A lot of good announcements recently - BQ Aquaris M10, Meizu Pro 5 and the Sony Xperia Z1 port. All those were some of the reasons why so many of our developers were so busy in the last weeks," says Łukasz Zemczak, Canonical Foundations.

OTA-9.1 also patches the Glibc vulnerability

Besides fixing the incoming call issue, the OTA-9.1 hotfix update should also fix the recent Glibc vulnerability, so we strongly recommend that you apply the update as soon as you see it in the System Settings panel under Updates.

In related news, it looks like the Ubuntu Touch devs continue working on the new features for the next major OTA, the OTA-10, which should arrive at the end of March 2016.

During the day of Monday, February 22, the rc-proposed channel, where all the OTA-10 goodness happens, received new versions of the Unity 8 interface, Messaging app, Thumbnailer, Unity Scopes Mediascanne, and Ubuntu Keyboard with Japanese support.
