Quite a few problems have been corrected

Canonical has just revealed that OTA 8.5 hotfix for Ubuntu Touch has been released and users will begin receiving it during the next 24 hours.

We were expecting to see this new update for Ubuntu Touch land tomorrow or maybe next Monday, but it seems like the Q&A process has been smooth and no new problems have been spotted by developers or the automatic testing process.

This new update is marked 8.5 since it's a small one and comes at the halfway point between two major OTA updates. It only corrects a few problems that couldn't wait for a few more weeks, so it's likely that users will really appreciate it.

What's new in the fresh Ubuntu Touch OTA 8.5

"This time everything went according to our plan and the 'hotfix' intermediate update codenamed OTA-8.5 has been copied to the stable channels. This means that in less than 24 hours all users should receive update notifications for this release. Once again big thanks to everyone participating in this hotfix! We hope you'll be satisfied with the quick-fix update we prepared for you," Canonical's Łukasz 'sil2100' Zemczak said in an email.

According to the changelog, a number of HTML5 webapp apparmor denials have been fixed, a high power consumption fix for the music app has been implemented, a few UI freezes that occurred to dbus signals have been repaired, the SIM card contact imports have been fixed, and some problems with the app installation process have been corrected as well.

Some couple of issues are still present and will be fixed in upcoming releases. For example, higher SIM power usage with SIMs that have an expired service plan has been reported, the boot time is increased after installing the update due to apparmor.

Even if it's a smaller update, it's still phased, so it will take 24 hours for everyone to get the notification.
