14 DAY TRIAL // On October 6, Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report to inform us all about the latest things that landed in the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system and about the work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers in the last 24 hours.
According to Mr. Zemczak, the Buteo sync packages have been reverted from the overlay PPA (Personal Package Archive) on Ubuntu Touch, because there were numerous things that could not be tested so easily before they were pushed to the silo. Therefore, the Ubuntu Touch developers decided to push it back for the OTA-8 update.
Furthermore, numerous memory leaks have been fixed, and they also managed to fix a regression in the UI Toolkit (UITK) related to the headers of the Ubuntu Touch's System Settings app, which will land soon for the forthcoming OTA-7 software update, due for release in approximately two weeks from today, on October 19, 2015.
"Today we have soft-reverted the Buteo sync packages from the overlay PPA. There are many specific edge-cases that were not easily testable thoroughly before landing the silo, which seem to be regressing with this feature enabled. The developers will re-attempt landing it again for OTA-8 soon," says Łukasz Zemczak.
All landings for Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 are closed on October 7
In addition to the UITK regression fix and the soft-revert of the Buteo sync packages, the Ubuntu Touch OTA-7 update received many other fixes, especially for the Web Browser app, which now runs AppArmor confined, but also for the Network Manager, Media Hub, and Oxide video player.
At the end of the report, Mr. Zemczak informs all Ubuntu Touch developers that October 6 marked the final freeze deadline for the upcoming OTA-7 software update, as well as the fact that, on the morning of October 7, all the OTA-7 landings will be closed. Then, a snapshot will be created and the first Release Candidate build generated.
