We reported a few days ago that the next major update for Canonical's mobile operating system, Ubuntu Touch OTA-6, would arrive in approximately 6 weeks, around September 1, 2015 or at the end of August if we're lucky.

We have started reporting news on the major new features that would land in the OTA-6 software update for the Ubuntu Touch mobile OS that powers the Meizu MX4, BQ Aquaris E4.5, and BQ Aquaris E5 HD smartphones.

Among these, we can mention the new thumbnailer used by the Camera and Gallery apps, as well as by several Scopes to quickly fetch, cache, and resize images, and some much-needed improvements to the Telegram app. There will also be Wi-Fi Hotspot (Internet Tethering) support.

On July 23, Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report on the work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers lately, informing us all about some of the new features that will be implemented in the OTA-6 update.

"For OTA-6 we will try to include calendar-app and dekko by default, so that new users get the two really important apps on start. Of course, first, both will have to pass QA sign-off though," says Łukasz Zemczak.

Dekko and Calendar app to be included by default

As you can see, the big news that we give you today is that the Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 will include the Dekko email client and the Calendar app by default, which will provide for a richer Ubuntu phone experience.

As usual, we will keep you updated once we have more information about the new features that will be implemented in the OTA-6 update for Ubuntu Touch. Until then, we wish you all a fantastic weekend!
