As we reported the other day, the Ubuntu Touch developers were hard at work to release the OTA-6 software update for Ubuntu for phones today, Wednesday, August 26, 2015, for Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition, Nexus 4, and Nexus 7 devices.

And it's finally here! Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 has been officially released, and the announcement has been prepared with all the goodies that it brings, such as Wi-Fi Hotspot support, an all-new boot splash screen, and custom alarm sounds.

The Trust Store integration has also arrived for PulseAudio and the Camera app, which means that an authorization will be required for apps to have access to the phone's camera and audio recording functionality.

The Oxide video player app has been updated to version 1.8.4 with many under-the-hood improvements, there's now a "Find in Page" functionality for the Web Browser app, and the visibility of the expanded indicator has been improved.

Moreover, there are several minor updates to the overall design of the Ubuntu Touch operating system, the interface of the "high volume" warning, as well as its behavior have been made compatible with the latest EU regulations, and it is now possible to enable audio playback for Web Apps.

"We have just released a new Ubuntu Touch update to the stable channel marked as OTA-6," says Łukasz Zemczak. "All users should have the new OTA tomorrow UTC evening. Be sure to inform us of any critical issues as soon as possible."

Numerous annoying bugs have been fixed

In addition to the changes mentioned above, there are also numerous bugfixes in Ubuntu Touch OTA-6, among which we can mention the removal of non-existing APs from the AP list, fixes for the Facebook integration, and fixes for the media-hub HTTPS Steam support.

The emulator images have also been fixed to be successfully booted and built, there will be no wrong contacts displayed as the sender of a message anymore, and the Unity 8, UITK, networking, and telephony components have received multiple critical fixes.

Users should be aware of some known issues after installing Ubuntu Touch OTA-6: the emulator images don't work on the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) branch, video mode on Nexus 7 devices breaks the Camera app and reboots the device, and UITK 1.3 is not compatible for app development.

OTA-6 comes next week for BQ Aquaris E4.5 and E5 HD

Next week, we will see the release of the Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 software update for the rest of the devices, more precisely for the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition smartphones. We will write another article when these images are released.

Until then, enjoy OTA-6 on your Meizu MX4 and Nexus devices, but please note that the update is distributed in phases, which means that it won't be available to all users at the same time so that Ubuntu's servers don't crash. In the next 24 hours, it will arrive everywhere tough.
