Comprehensive release notes are coming later today

On August 25, Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report informing all Ubuntu Phone owners and Ubuntu Touch developers about the progress made on the soon-to-be-released OTA-6 software update for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system.

We reported the other day that the Ubuntu Touch developers decided to change the release dates for the OTA-6 update slightly, as it will first be released on August 26 for Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition, Nexus 4, and Nexus 7 devices.

Unfortunately, because BQ needs specific timelines to test the Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 software update, users of the BQ Aquaris E4.5 Ubuntu Edition and BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition smartphones must wait until next week.

Today, Mr. Zemczak informs us that work on the OTA-6 update is almost done and that the Ubuntu Touch developers have prepared the final RC (Release Candidate) images. Once the testing on the promotion candidate images is done, OTA-6 will be released and will be available for the specified devices over the air.

"We will most probably release the emulator with the first batch of images as well as all fixes are already present. We will, of course, use phased updates, so not all users will get the update at once - for safety reasons," says Łukasz Zemczak. "Once the release happens there will be a separate announcement with all the release notes as well."

Ubuntu Touch devs are investigating a power consumption regression

Until the release of Ubuntu Touch OTA-6 software update for BQ Aquaris Ubuntu phones arrives next week, the developers have enough time to investigate and fix a possible power consumption regression, which has been discovered in the last few days in the Ubuntu Touch images for BQ devices. Until then, we will keep you informed when the OTA-6 is released later today.
