BQ is still testing the candidate images of OTA-5

On July 14, Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak sent in his daily report on the work done by the Ubuntu Touch development team, informing us that the OTA-5 software update for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system was delayed for the next Monday, July 20, 2015.

According to Mr. Zemczak, it would appear that the release candidate images of the OTA-5 update for Ubuntu Touch are heavily tested by BQ, the Spanish mobile manufacturer that makes the BQ Aquaris E4.5 and BQ Aquaris E5 HD Ubuntu Edition smartphones, which needs a little more time to finish all of their rigorous tests on both devices. That's the reason for the delay for the next Monday.

"We're waiting for the OTA-5 candidate image validation from BQ. Sadly we got informed that they'll need a bit more time for their testing, so the final release date will have to be delayed until Monday next week," says Łukasz Zemczak. "We apologize for that, but it'll also give us more time to react in case there's something wrong with the update, as we'll have the whole work-week for fixes."

Landing gates are now open, and OTA-6 planning continues

Łukasz Zemczak also reports that the Ubuntu Touch OTA-5 landing gates are now open, and the number one priority is to get the Ubuntu Touch emulator to work again. Additionally, it would appear that a large number of issues will remain unresolved in OTA-5 and have been moved to the next major update, OTA-6.

We will keep you, guys, informed the second anything major happens, but most probably, you will be able to update your Ubuntu phones to the OTA-5 software sometime at the beginning or middle of next week.
