We have just been informed by Łukasz Zemczak of Canonical about a preliminary release schedule for the next OTA software updates for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the Ubuntu Touch developers have decided that a post OTA-9 hotfix update, OTA-9.5, will be released after all, which will be the next thing they prepare for. The OTA-9.5 update will enter final freeze on January 29, two days after the launch on OTA-9 on January 27, and will be released for all supported Ubuntu Phone devices on February 10, 2016.

"The dates might seem a bit tight, but we can always modify the schedules in case of an emergency. For now, please be sure to prepare all the needed changes for each release before the respective final freeze," said Łukasz Zemczak, Ubuntu Foundations. "OTA-9.5 will be a hotfix release, providing some of the base changes for convergence + a few other bugfixes which we would like to fix ASAP."

The Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 release schedule

As for the Ubuntu Touch OTA-10 software update, the team has already started landing new features, as we reported last week in a couple of articles, and its release schedule reveals the fact that it will enter string and feature freeze on February 9, 2016. The final freeze is set for February 19, and the OTA-10 update will be officially sent to users' Ubuntu Phone devices starting March 3, 2016.

In the meantime, Łukasz Zemczak also sent us his daily report to inform everyone about the latest work done by the Ubuntu Touch developers in preparation for the soon-to-be-released OTA-9 update, which should arrive tomorrow, January 27, as originally planned (without any delays). But more on that will be revealed later today once we write the article, so check the website for updates in the next few hours.
