The OTA-8.5 hotfix update might not be released

Today, December 2, Canonical's Łukasz Zemczak has sent in his daily report to inform Ubuntu Touch developers and users alike about the latest new features implemented in the mobile operating system.

According to Mr. Zemczak, the first day of December was not very productive for Ubuntu Touch developers, as they only managed to push a new version of the location-service component in the rc-proposed channel, and the OTA-8.5 hotfix update might not arrive after all because the team didn't manage to fix all the bugs in time.

"Also, remember that Ubuntu Touch is an open project for everyone. If you're a developer and would like to help out with bugfixes or anything else, be sure to reach out to us on IRC (#ubuntu-touch on Freenode) or simply contacting the respective component teams," said Łukasz Zemczak.

New features land on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS branch

On the other hand, it looks like the Ubuntu Touch developers are now focused on the new Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) branch of the mobile operating system, bringing more and more exciting new features and improvements, such as a new upstream version of the Qt 5.5 GUI toolkit, including all of its components.

We reported last week that Ubuntu Touch had a devel-proposed channel based on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS operating system, which would become the new stable series for the mobile OS sometime next year. However, users are advised to stay away from the devel, Xenial Xerus-based images of Ubuntu Touch as they are buggy.

The Ubuntu Touch developers promise to improve the quality of the Ubuntu 16.04-based Ubuntu Touch mobile OS in the future so that more and more users can help test it. Anyway, for now, the development is focused on the rc-proposed channel, where all the new features and bugfixes land.
