Today, November 15, 2016, is the first day of the Ubuntu Online Summit (UOS) event put together by Canonical for the upcoming Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) Linux-based operating system.

It's not the first time we inform our readers about Ubuntu Online Summit taking place between November 15-16, 2016, but today is the big day, so we had to write another story just to make sure we've got your attention. The event welcomes all members of the community, as well as Ubuntu developers, and takes place online, so it's free.

"Unsurprisingly we will be focusing a lot on Snaps this time, so there will be a lot of good information there for people who want to learn more about them and how they are coming along. There will also be a number of non-Snap sessions, including classic desktop, server and community targeted presentations," reveals Michael Hall, Community Manager at Canonical, for Softpedia.

Unity 8 and deprecation of the 32-bit ISOs are the top topics

There will be a lot of interesting topics during the two days of the Ubuntu Online Summit event for Ubuntu 17.04, covering cloud (MAAS HTTP API with Python requests, MySQL and MariaDB status and roadmap), Git-based Ubuntu development workflow for community, convergence, as well as Snap development for beginners.

Talks about the upcoming performance improvements and other new features that will be implemented in the Unity 7's low graphics mode functionality should take place on the first day of the event, along with a dedicated session about the organization of the UbuCon Europe conference that'll take place between November 18-20, 2016.

However, the top topics for the Ubuntu Online Summit for Ubuntu 17.04 event will be the future of the Unity 8 user interface and deprecation of the 32-bit (i386) and PowerPC (PPC) ISO images for Ubuntu Linux and its flavors. Netplan and snapping of KDE apps will also be discussed. You can register now at http://summit.ubuntu.com.
