14 DAY TRIAL // In only four days, Canonical will unleash the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, the next major and most anticipated release of the popular Linux kernel-based operating system for desktops, servers, and mobile devices.
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS has been in development for the past six months, since October 2015, during which time early adopters and public testers were able to test drive two Alpha builds and one Beta for the opt-in flavors, and a second Beta release for all the official Ubuntu flavors that participated in the Xenial Xerus cycle.
Of course, Ubuntu MATE is one the most acclaimed flavors of the Ubuntu Linux operating system, and the upcoming 16.04 release will be a long-term supported (LTS) one too, as project leader Martin Wimpress revealed a few minutes ago on Twitter.

Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS will receive three years of support
Canonical releases an LTS (Long Term Support) version of Ubuntu Linux every two years, and it provides users with five years of security patches and software updates for both desktop and server editions, but that doesn't apply to all the official Ubuntu flavors.
Ubuntu MATE is one of the luckiest Ubuntu flavors to be an LTS version, and the Ubuntu MATE 16.04 release will receive three years of support, until the year 2019.
