Today, October 13, 2016, was an important day for Ubuntu users, as Canonical announced the release of Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak), along with most of its officially recognized derivatives.

Ubuntu Kylin 16.10, also dubbed Yakkety Yak, has been announced today as well, and it looks like it's one of the best releases so far of the Ubuntu flavor designed for Chinese-speaking users. It ships with the latest Linux 4.8 kernel for improved hardware support, a gorgeous Unity 7 interface with bottom Launcher, and many up-to-date applications, among which we can mention the Mozilla Firefox 49.0 and Chromium 53.0 web browsers, Mozilla Thunderbird 45.3.0 email and news client, and LibreOffice 5.2 office suite.

"We are glad to announce the Release of Ubuntu Kylin 16.10 (codename YakketyYak). In this release, we have fixed many internationalization and localization bugs in Ubuntu itself and bugs in software written by the Ubuntu Kylin team. All the work that Ubuntu Kylin team do is within the Ubuntu community and ecosystem, and, as such, they are flowed back to Ubuntu itself naturally and everyone using Ubuntu can benefit the result of our work," reads today's announcement.

 The wizard of Ubuntu Kylin

Among the in-house built packages designed for Chinese-speaking users, Ubuntu Kylin 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) includes the Sogou Pinyin 2.0.0.0082 release of the popular Chinese Pinyin input method editor, which is available from the repositories and can be easily installed via Ubuntu Kylin Software Center, ubuntukylin-theme 1.6.2 with support for the GTK+ 3.20 technologies, Flatpak-style icon names, new LibreOffice icons, improved display effect for device icons, and other visual changes.

Nautilus (Files) 3.20 is the default file manager, ubuntukylin-default-settings were updated to version 1.3.15, and there's a new package called ubuntu-kylin-wizard, which promises to provide a welcome and guided interface to new Ubuntu Kylin users. It is also known as "The wizard of Ubuntu Kylin." We believe Ubuntu Kylin 16.10 is a worthy upgrade for anyone using this operating system, and you can download the Live ISO images for 64- and 32-bit systems right now via our website to enjoy the new features.
