Softpedia was informed today, September 29, 2016, by David Mohammed from the budgie-remix project about the availability of the second and last Beta release of the upcoming Ubuntu Budgie Remix 16.10 operating system.

Coming hot on the heels of yesterday's Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak) Final Beta release, Ubuntu Budgie Remix 16.10 Beta 2 is based on most of the GNU/Linux and Open Source technologies used in Ubuntu 16.10, such as systemd 231 and Linux kernel 4.8, but it's built around the latest version of the beautiful Budgie desktop environment created by the Solus Project.

In fact, the biggest new feature of the Beta 2 milestone of Ubuntu Budgie Remix 16.10 is the latest Budgie Desktop 10.2.7 environment, which we were the first to tell you all about a few weeks ago. Best of all, it looks like the budgie-remix team went ahead and also implemented the brand new volume applet that was developed post Budgie 10.2.7.

"One of the most notable changes is the new budgie-desktop 10.2.7 package created by our Solus friends," says David Mohammed in the announcement. "The new version of budgie-desktop comes with a much needed keyboard applet for users that need to easily switch between different layouts. All indicator applets are now consistent with each other (left clickable) and Raven launches appropriately when the notification applet is clicked."

If you're using Ubuntu Budgie Remix 16.10 Beta 1 or Alpha, please reinstall

Among other interesting improvements implemented in Ubuntu Budgie Remix 16.10 Beta 2, we can mention that it is now possible to pin Chrome apps, the Workspaces applet should be compatible with the latest GTK+ 3.20 toolkit, the Moka icon theme has been made compatible with the Budgie desktop itself and the GTK+ 3.22 GUI toolkit, many obsolete packages have been removed, and lots of bugs were fixed.

Ubuntu Budgie Remix 16.10 Beta 2 is now available for download via our website, where you'll find links to the official 64-bit and 32-bit Live ISO images. However, the budgie-remix team would like to inform those of you running the previous Beta snapshot or the Alpha release that you'll need to reinstall your system using the new Beta 2 ISOs if you want to have a flawless experience. Lastly, the Pocillo icon theme is coming to the final Ubuntu Budgie Remix 16.10 release in October!
