The development team behind the newest Ubuntu Linux flavor built around the lightweight Budgie desktop environment produced by the Solus Project, Ubuntu Budgie, published an informative newsletter about the latest news of the project.

As you might know, Ubuntu Budgie was previously known as budgie-remix. It still is and will still be named budgie-remix for users who have the 16.04 and 16.10 releases of the Ubuntu-based operating system installed on their personal computers, but the team is hard at work these days to rename the entire project to the new Ubuntu Budgie moniker.

Therefore, these renaming efforts will be available only as part of the upcoming Ubuntu Budgie 17.04 distribution, which will be the project's first official release as part of the Ubuntu Linux ecosystem. However, in the meantime, the team launched a new website for Ubuntu Budgie, allowing users to download the OS from their phones.

"As you already noticed, we’ve updated our new ubuntubudgie.org website, making it faster and easier to use on variety of devices. Want to download Ubuntu Budgie from a phone? You can! No more fighting with the website when visiting various pages or posts. The website is fully responsive which results in a better experience for every user," said the devs.

Budgie Desktop 10.2.9 now available for budgie-remix 16.04 and 16.10 users

If you're using Solus, you're probably aware of the fact that the Budgie 10.2.9 desktop environment landed with numerous improvements, and it looks like it's also available for budgie-remix 16.04 and 16.10, which users can now install from the stable repositories. It will also be available for Ubuntu Budgie 17.04 (Zesty Zapus).

Talking about Ubuntu Budgie 17.04, daily built ISO images are expected in the coming weeks with lots of improvements and new features. Among these, we can mention an improved AppIndicator applet, GCC 7 compiler support, as well as much-needed AMD Radeon graphics changes.

Last but not least, the team announced today the upcoming availability of the "budgie-remix fresh" respin ISO, dubbed as "our ultimate hacker’s distro." In fact, this will be the Ubuntu Budgie Ultra Minimal edition we told you about a few weeks ago, designed for those who love to fully customize their installations.
