LXLE 16.04.2 is on its way to becoming the best release ever of the Ubuntu-based distribution built around the lightweight LXDE desktop environment, and it just received a Release Candidate (RC) build.

Continuing to get all the goodies from Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (Xenial Xerus), LXLE 16.04.2 Release Candidate is here only two weeks after the last Beta milestone, and adds quite a bunch of improvements and bug fixes. These include a reconfigured menu layout to be less cluttered for navigation, and a revamped Control Menu to act as a dynamic Control Panel.

Moreover, the LXLE 16.04.2 Release Candidate improves consistency by adding various tweaks to the system theme, providing users with a more uniform look. Also, it looks like the Zenburn theme is now used for the custom terminal color schemes, and the GTK+ theme was updated to better integrate with more Qt apps.

Ubuntu's proposed repository now included by default

Among other changes implemented in the Release Candidate of LXLE 16.04.2, we can mention that Ubuntu's proposed repository is now included by default, and the slideshow and custom menu entries of the graphical installer were fully translated to allow you to install the distro in your favorite language.

This being a Release Candidate, not many things will change until the final release of the operating system is hitting the streets, which should happen after the developer gets well, as it appears he will undergo a surgery soon. On this occasion, we want to wish him all the best!

"I was working on this release candidate, trying to get it done before my surgery. Then my surgery was bumped up a few days and well, I had to do what I had to do and thankfully everything went well. As a positive side effect LXLE has seen a lot of attention this release," reads today's announcement.

If you want to help with the testing, you can download the LXLE 16.04.2 Release Candidate Live ISO images for either 32-bit or 64-bit architectures right now from our website. However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version of the OS, not suitable for installation on production environments.
