Another week, another weekly build of the Ubuntu-based Black Lab Linux operating system is available for download, as Black Lab Software Robert J. Dohnert informed Softpedia.

While last week's Black Lab Linux Weekly 253 release brought quite some interesting changes, including better support for Microsoft Surface Studio and USB-C devices, improved wireless support, as well as the latest security updates, the Weekly 254 build is shipping with the Linux 4.8.0-41 kernel from the Ubuntu 16.10 operating system.

It also includes the Unity desktop environment, adds various optimizations for SSD (Solid State Drive) and other types of flash drives, improves support for various Intel-based Chromebooks and Intel NUCs, as well as the 5G mobile broadband compatibility. Additionally, it comes with the latest NetworkManager version to reduce the number of disconnects and reconnects.

Known issues in Black Lab Linux Weekly 254

We are already used to the fact that there isn't a perfect release, so the Black Lab Linux Weekly 254 build comes with a handful of known issues. These include the inability to use the proprietary Nvidia graphics drivers during installation, and that the installer will crash when attempting to install the operating system on a MacBook Pro.

It also looks like users might have to reboot their computers when resetting the resolution on HDMI monitors. The Black Lab Linux Weekly 254 Live ISO image is now available for download for 64-bit (x86_64) architectures, but please try to keep in mind that this is a development build, so don't use it as your daily driver.

If you want to install Black Lab Linux and use it on your personal computer, we recommend that you download the latest stable release, namely Black Lab Linux 8.1, which you can download right now from our website. See you next week for another Black Lab Linux Weekly build.
