Black Lab Software, through Roberto Dohnert, informs Softpedia today about the release and immediate availability for download of the second maintenance update to the Black Lab Linux 8 operating system series.

Black Lab Linux 8.2 comes almost two months after the launch of the first point release, and while it still uses the long-term supported Linux 4.4 kernel from the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, it fixes over 270 bugs discovered during this time.

"Black Lab Linux 8.2 has had major work done in terms of stability. We have over 270 bug fixes in this release. With this release we ship in 4 desktops, Unity, XFCE, Mate and LXDE. As an incremental release, 8.2 is available for free download immediately," said Roberto J. Dohnert, CEO of Black Lab Software.

What's new in Black Lab Linux 8.2

Besides shipping with the latest security updates from Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, Black Lab Linux 8.2 includes up-to-date applications and components, such as the Chromium 57 web browser, Mozilla Thunderbird 45 email and news client, LibreOffice 5.3 office suite, as well as Audacious 3.8.2 audio player.

The Parole media player is included as well in Black Lab Linux 8.2, and the operating system now offers a total of four desktop environments. These are Unity, MATE, Xfce, and LXDE, which the user can choose from the login screen. Black Lab Linux 8.2 is available for download right now on our website.

Of course, those who are using Black Lab Linux 8 or 8.1 on their personal computers can upgrade their installations to Black Lab Linux 8.2 by using the built-in package manager of the operating system, or the command-line. Considering the fact that this update sports a new kernel, you'll need to reboot your computer after updating it.

You can also use the weekly builds of Black Lab Linux if you want to use the operating system on some special hardware, such as a Microsoft Surface Pro tablet. Black Lab Linux Weekly 256 is the latest available and promises to improve support for AMD Ryzen processors and Microsoft Surface devices.
