Black Lab Software's Roberto J. Dohnert has had the pleasure of informing Softpedia earlier today about the immediate availability for download and testing of the final RC (Release Candidate) build of the upcoming Black Lab Linux 7 operating system.

Being powered by Ubuntu's Linux kernel 3.16.0-50 and 3.19.0-30 packages, the first and last Release Candidate (RC) build of Black Lab Linux 7, due for release later this year, comes today with the latest software versions, including Mozilla Firefox 41.0, LibreOffice 5.0.2.2, Mozilla Thunderbird 38.2.0, and Audacious 3.6.2.

There are also many other changes in the distribution, such as the removal of the GMTP software, the implementation of a new icon theme called NewCurve, the addition of various new themes for the Xfce desktop environment, as well as the implementation of windows buttons that indicate the open state of apps.

Moreover, there's Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) support in the filesystem and the default file manager app, and numerous bugs that have been reported by users since the Beta build have been squashed, including issues with Nvidia graphics cards, a NetworkManager crash, YouTube black screens in Firefox, and more.

"Today we are releasing the final RC candidate before the major release in December for Black Lab Linux 7. In Black Lab NEXT 2015.10 we focused on many compatibility issues and resolved a few that were plaguing users. The list of currently fixed bugs are as follows," says Roberto J. Dohnert for Softpedia.

Black Lab Linux 7 comes in December 2015

The Black Lab Linux 7 operating system is currently in feature freeze, which means that only critical bugs will be fixed in the coming months before the final release in December 2015. Of course, this means that new features will no longer be added to the GNU/Linux distribution, which will have the same Xfce desktop environment used in previous releases.

Those of you who wish to take the Release Candidate build of the Black Lab Linux 7 operating system for a test drive can download the Live DVD ISO image for 64-bit systems right now from Softpedia. However, please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which means that it is not yet stable enough for deployment on production machines.
