Unity 8 session start still not working at the moment

Canonical's Sebastien Bacher sent in his weekly report to inform us all about what happened in the Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Touch operating systems in the week that just passed.

Therefore, we can report that the team over at Canonical managed to fix various bugs in the GTK-Mir backend, as well as to work on some library transitions for Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), which include GStreamer 1.5, wps 0.4, poppler 0.33, and e-d-s 3.16.

Moreover, they've updated the IBus package to the latest available version, which has been successfully merged with the upstream Debian GNU/Linux repos, and updated the Chromium web browser to version 43.0.2357.130.

"Hey there, so summer started but it didn't distract us to get some good work done," says Sebastien Bacher. "The usual IRC meeting happened on Tuesday. If you are not interested in the details here is a summary of the main items of the week."

Snappy Personal images are coming soon

Work continues for Ubuntu Snappy personal images, as many bugs have been addressed, and it is now possible to successfully build these images, as well as to boot them until they reach a working login screen.

For those of you who are not in the loop, we remind you that Canonical is working hard to bring new images for Ubuntu 15.10 based on the Snappy technology, which does not rely on the images built with Debian packages.

However, it would appear that the goget-ubuntu-touch package in Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) does not currently have support for Snappy Personal. Also, the Unity 8 session start is defective at the moment of writing this article.

Last but not least, Sebastien Bacher's email also mentions a new feature that we've already reported the other day, the upcoming LibreOffice document viewer core app for the Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system.
