Canonical's Adam Conrad had the great pleasure of announcing a few minutes ago, September 24, the immediate availability for download and testing of the Final Beta build of the Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system.

Powered by the recently released Linux kernel 4.2.1, Ubuntu 15.10 Final Beta is the first and also the last development build of the anticipated GNU/Linux distribution. As you might know, some of the most important Ubuntu flavors, including Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu MATE, and Ubuntu Kylin, participated in the Wily Werewolf development cycle with two Alpha builds and one Beta release.

Until today, Ubuntu 15.10 was available only as Daily Build ISO images, so the Final Beta is the first official development release that users worldwide can download and test. We've already reported on the new features that have been implemented in Ubuntu 15.10 until now, but we will take this opportunity to summarize them again for your reading pleasure, and we've also prepared a nice screenshot tour at the end of the article.

"Codenamed 'Wily Werewolf,' 15.10 continues Ubuntu's proud tradition of integrating the latest and greatest open source technologies into a high-quality, easy-to-use Linux distribution.  The team has been hard at work through this cycle, introducing new features and fixing bugs," says Adam Conrad. "Wily Final Beta includes updated versions of most of our core set of packages, including a current 4.2.1 kernel, and much more."

Here's what's new Ubuntu 15.10 Final Beta

Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) will use the systemd 225 init system by default, adds minor improvements to the Unity 7 user interface, includes most of the packages from the GNOME 3.16 stack, supports stateless persistent network interface names, adds the GCC 5 and Python 3 technologies, and improves the look and feel with new scrollbars and a revamped wallpaper.

The final release of Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) arrives next month, on October 22, 2015. Until then, you can download the Ubuntu 15.10 Final Beta Live DVD ISO images for 32-bit and 64-bit hardware architectures right now from Softpedia and discover the operating system's new features for yourselves. Please keep in mind though that this is a pre-release version, not suitable for production use.
