Canonical, through Martin Wimpress, announced just a few minutes ago the immediate availability for download and testing of the first Beta builds for opt-in flavors of the forthcoming Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system.

Therefore, Ubuntu itself is not part of this release, but only some of its official editions are, among which Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu GNOME, Ubuntu Kylin, Xubuntu, and Ubuntu Cloud. All of them have received new ISO builds that include all the updates from the upstream Ubuntu Linux software repositories as of August 27, 2015, and have been tagged as Beta 1.

"Beta 1 includes a number of software updates that are ready for wider testing. This is quite an early set of images, so you should expect some bugs," says Martin Wimpress. "While these Beta 1 images have been tested and work, except as noted in the release notes, Ubuntu developers are continuing to improve the Wily Werewolf."

What's new in Ubuntu 15.10 Beta 1 for opt-in flavors

To summarize, Kubuntu comes with KDE Plasma 5.4 and KDE Applications 15.08, Ubuntu MATE features MATE 1.10 and updated apps, and Ubuntu GNOME has GNOME 3.16, Xubuntu dropped Gnumeric and Abiword in favor of LibreOffice Calc and Writer. All of them are powered by Linux kernel 4.1 LTS.

As usual, you can download Kubuntu 15.10 Beta 1, Lubuntu 15.10 Beta 1, Xubuntu 15.10 Beta 1, Ubuntu MATE 15.10 Beta 1, Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 Beta 1, Ubuntu Kylin 15.10 Beta 1, and Ubuntu Cloud 15.10 Beta 1 right now from Softpedia, where you will find Live CD/DVD ISO images for 64-bit and 32-bit architectures. However, please try to keep in mind that these are pre-release versions, not suitable for production use.
